Explanation of Club Competitions

SHRIVENHAM  BOWLS CLUB COMPETITIONS

1.  MENS SINGLES.  Presented by Len Smith of Wessex Bowls
Knock Out Singles Competition for Men.
Draw for opponents and rounds will be made on Competition Draw Evening - Game to consist of 21 shots - 4 woods each.
Arrange games by mutual agreement before the closing date of each round, with the final on Finals Day.

2.  LADIES SINGLES.  Presented by Madeleine Tidmarsh
Same as Men’s Singles above, but for the Ladies.

3.  MEN’S TWO WOOD.  Presented by George Deacon
Knock Out Two Wood Singles Competition for Men
Draw for opponents and rounds will be made on Competition Draw Evening - Game to consist of 21 ends - 2 woods each.
Arrange games by mutual agreement before the closing date of each round, with the final on Finals Day.

4.  LADIES TWO WOOD.  White Rose Cup presented by George Lockwood
Same as the Men’s Two Wood above, but for the Ladies

5.  CLUB PAIRS.  Presented by Ecolarm Ltd
Knock Out Pairs Competition for all members.
Enter as an individual, draw for partners, will be made on Competition Draw Evening - Game to consist of 21 ends - 4 woods each.  Arrange games by mutual agreement before the closing date of each round, with the final on Finals Day.

6.  ALAN LANE MIXED PAIRS.  Presented in memory of Alan Lane
Knock Out Mixed Pairs Competition for all members
Enter as a Mixed Pair, the draw for opponents will be made on Competition Draw Evening-Game to consist of 21 ends - 4 woods each.
Arrange games by mutual agreement before the closing date of each round, with the final on Finals Day.

7.  JIM JONES (NEVER WON).  Presented in memory of Jim Jones
Knock Out Singles Competition for those who learned to bowl at Shrivenham and have not won a Major Club Competition. ( No 1 to 12) Draw for opponents and rounds will be made late in June to accommodate new recruits - Game to consist of 21 shots - 4 woods each. Arrange games by mutual agreement before the closing date of each round, with the final on Finals Day.

8.  ROSE McDIARMID.  Presented in memory of Rose McDiarmid
Knock Out Singles Competition for Ladies over 60, and Men over 65.
Draw for opponents and rounds will be made on Competition Draw Evening - Game to consist of 21 shots - 4 woods each.
Arrange games by mutual agreement before the closing date of each round played afternoons only, with the final on Finals Day.

9.  CLUB TRIPLES.  Presented by Chris Haste
Knock Out Triples Competition for all members
Enter as an individual, draw for partners will be made on Competition Draw Evening - Game to consist of 18 ends - 3 woods each.
Early rounds to be played on a specific day, set aside for the purpose of obtaining four semi-finalists, to be played on Friday evening later in the season, with the final on Finals Day.

10.  MEN’S HANDICAP.  White Rose & Lockwood Tankards presented in memory of George Lockwood
Knock Out Singles Competition with individual handicaps for Men.
Draw for opponents and rounds will be made on Competition Draw Evening
Game to consist of 21 shots, with the lowest handicap member starting on the difference between handicaps - 4 woods each. 
Handicaps will be decided by the Handicap Sub-Committee
Arrange games by mutual agreement before the closing date of each round, with the final on Finals Day.

11.  MIXED HANDICAP.  Presented by the Committee
Knock Out Mixed Singles Competition with individual handicaps for Men and Ladies
Draw for opponents and rounds will be made on Competition Draw Evening
Game to consist of 21 shots, with the lowest handicap member starting on the difference between handicaps - 4 woods each. 
Handicaps will be decided by the Handicap Sub-Committee
Arrange games by mutual agreement before the closing date of each round, with the final on Finals Day.

12.  COUNCIL NOMINATED PAIRS.  Presented by Shrivenham Parish Council
Knock Out Pairs Competition for all members.
Enter as a nominated pair.( i.e. 2 Gents, 2 Ladies or Mixed) the draw for opponents will be made on Competition Draw Evening.
Game to consist of 21 ends - 4 woods each.
Arrange games by mutual agreement before the closing date of each round, with the final on Finals Day.

OTHER COMPETITIONS 

JIM POPE COMPETITION  -  Awarded in memory of Jim Pope a local policeman.
Knock Out Mixed Singles - Played to a finish - 15 Shots - 4  Woods - Enter as an Individual - Drawn at advertised starting time

SYDNEY & DORIS BELK COMPETITION  -  Awarded in memory of Sidney & Doris Belk
Knock Out Two Wood Pairs Competition - Enter as an Individual-Played to a finish - Best of Three Sets - 2 sets of Seven Ends – with
the third deciding set the best of 3 ends - Drawn at starting time.  

FRIDAY HANDICAP TRIPLES LEAGUE –
League ‘Round Robin’ Competition Games every Friday Evening - Teams of 3 to 6 – 3 woods each -  Personal Handicaps are applied.

RON WALKLEY ROVER CUP – Awarded in memory of Ron Walkley and donated by Tilcon Construction Ltd.
League ‘Round Robin’ Competition - Played under floodlights every evening throughout the scheduled week - Enter as an individual
Drawn on the Friday Evening before the scheduled week.  

BETTYJOE GALA DAY  - Awarded in memory of Betty and Joe Dixon. 
‘Round Robin’ Competition or Rinks Drive type of game - Starting at 2.30 with Tea supplied - Enter as an individual.  
Teams of 4 or 5 drawn on the Friday Evening before the scheduled date.
